This post is all about my peaceful winter morning routine.
Recently, I have perfected my morning routine before the work day. I would say that I’m a morning person but I used to really struggle with consistently waking up at the same time each day. I would wake up at 5am for a week but then fall right back into my old habits the next week. It was miserable to feel so rushed each day and I knew that I needed to create a morning routine that would stick.
I am definitely a slow morning person, so jumping out of bed and heading straight out the door completely overwhelmed me. I decided to create a morning routine that I actually enjoyed and looked forward to. I made sure not to schedule any gym sessions in the morning and gave myself plenty of time to enjoy coffee and reading.

Helpful Tips for Waking Up Early
- Prep everything the night before- I usually set up my coffee maker the night before so that it’s ready to go in the morning (unless my husband uses it haha). I also like to lay out my supplements and vitamins on the counter and make sure my space is clean. I will also lay out my reading materials on the coffee table and set out a mug for coffee.
- Go to bed early and use an alarm clock that actually works- I used to wake up to iPhone alarm and it literally traumatized me. Now I have my hatch alarm and couldn’t be happier! The Hatch alarm is life changing and now I don’t mind waking up so early.
- Create a morning routine you actually look forward to- A slow morning is so important to me. I use my early mornings to read my Bible, spend time with God and drink my coffee. I used to try to have these really intense mornings where I would run around and get stuff done but it just made me more stressed.
My Peaceful Winter Morning Routine
1. Wake Up & Head to the Kitchen
I wake up at around 5am each morning and pretty much head straight to the kitchen. I prep my coffee the night before so all I have to do is press a button to get it started. I then heat up my beef bone broth on the stove. I use the organic beef bone broth from Trader Joe’s but also love Kettle & Fire bone broth. I’ve recently started drinking bone broth before coffee because it has about 20 grams of protein in two cups. I find that I don’t feel so jittery if I have bone broth before coffee! While the bone broth is heating up, I squeeze half a lemon in some warm water and drink up. I prep my coffee, pour the bone broth into a mug and head to the couch to start on my reading.

2. Bible Study, Prayer, Journaling
Ever since deciding to switch my mornings over to bible study time, I have felt so much more at peace. This is not to say that every morning is perfect or that I don’t have off weeks, but usually I make it a point to structure my entire morning around spending time with God. In order to truly make my bible reading a habit each morning, I had to stay off my phone completely. When I first started, I kept having this strong urge to check my phone and the Bible didn’t even seem interesting. As soon as I quit my phone, my love for the Bible grew. My phone use is something that I constantly have to keep in check.
I usually start my study time off with reading a few chapters in the Bible. Right now, I am reading through the Old Testament but have also been enjoying Psalms and Proverbs. After my time in the Bible, I will do some prayer and journaling. My journaling habits are pretty straight forward. I like to journal any scriptures that stand out, my thoughts, prayers and feelings. Sometimes, I just feel like sitting in silence or listening to worship music or a sermon. Every morning is different. What I love most is that I never feel rushed and always take my time with my mornings.

3. Get Ready for the Day
After my Bible study time, I get ready for the day which usually doesn’t take me that long. I do my skincare, sometimes my makeup and will make my bed if I have time or feel particularly motivated. I also like to do some quick tidying up before leaving and will take a look at my to do list if I have one for the day. I usually don’t eat my official breakfast until I get to work. I’m a nanny and have a very flexible schedule which I love!
I recently picked up an old vanity from the thrift store and have loved using it for my skincare and makeup. It feels good to be able to sit down and take my time. I also have two dogs and a pet bunny so of course I take care of them every morning. I will also pack my lunch for the day and make a drink for the road. I usually mix in some electrolytes with creatine every morning. Sometimes I will make some green juice. It just depends on how I’m feeling!

That pretty much sums up my morning routine! I absolutely love waking up early now and look forward to my slow mornings at home. If you work a 9-5 job then I’m sure you know how difficult it is to schedule in peaceful times throughout your day. I remember when I worked in office and commuted 3 hours each day! It was horrible. Even if you don’t have a lot of time each morning, I think it is so important to schedule in 30 minutes of peace before you start your work day. It makes the biggest difference!
