This post is all about How to Make the Most of a Small Front Porch.
I have always been the biggest fan of front porches. I grew up in an old farmhouse and it had a huge front porch. The front porch is where I spent my summers reading and relaxing. Now I have my own house but the front porch is pretty small. There is still so much potential though! I wanted a front porch that felt homey, bright and welcoming and I’m so happy with how this project turned out. I knew I wanted my front porch to have a ton of plants and flowers on it. The ferns were definitely a must for me since I can’t picture a front porch without a fern somewhere on it.
When it comes to a small front porch, it’s important to make the most of all the space. I wanted to focus most on potted flowers and plants. However, I think adding a cute little rocking chair would have also been nice. It just depends on what you want your small porch to be used for. If you want to be able to sit and relax on your porch then definitely make room for some chairs. I think I would have been able to fit at least one chair on my porch but I spend most of my time in the backyard so I didn’t really need it. Anyways, let’s get into this makeover!

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF A SMALL FRONT PORCH
1. Paint the Front Door
I have always wanted to paint my front door a bright, fun color but have never got around to doing it. I guess I was nervous that it wouldn’t turn out the way I wanted but because we are going to be replacing this door in the next few years I decided to take a chance! My front door turned out so beautiful and it was super easy. I first did a deep clean of the door and sanded areas that were rough. I used an exterior primer first and then went ahead with the exterior yellow paint. This yellow color is Behr- Banana Mania. I also painted my garden shed door the same color. It looks a bit brighter in photos but it’s more of a mellow yellow. I also love how the yellow door looks with all the bright flowers and pots. I am definitely ready for summer!
If you are looking to paint your front door a different color, definitely look for some inspiration on Pinterest. I would definitely suggest going for a color that will look good during all seasons. I’m not sure how this yellow will look during the holiday seasons but I’m excited to branch out and be creative once the holidays hit! For now, this yellow door is the perfect way to welcome summer!

2. Use a Cute Doormat
I absolutely love the way this jute doormat looks on our porch and it was only $12 at Target! I went with a more plain doormat but there are so many great options if you want to add more color to your porch. I also think the doormats with cute little phrases are super fun as well. I wanted to use a basic doormat because I already had so much color on my porch thanks to the pots and flowers. Homegoods, Target and Amazon all have great options when it comes to cute doormats!

3. Use a Door Wreath
A good door wreath really does tie a front porch together! At first, I was thinking of getting a super colorful wreath with a bunch of flowers but I couldn’t find one that didn’t look super fake. I got this wreath from Target and love how real and tasteful it looks. I love to change out wreaths for the different seasons and thought this one was perfect for spring.
Something that I would really love to do is make my own wreath using dried flowers. I think it would look so beautiful and simple which I love. I was at Walmart the other day and I saw a wicker wreath and I thought it would be so much fun to decorate it myself. Maybe I will do a little wreath project this summer and share it on the blog!

4. Use Bright Flowers & Pots
This was my favorite part of the front porch makeover! I loved picking out all the bright colored flowers and repotting them. I found most of these pots at Homegoods. I would definitely start there since they have the most affordable and, in my opinion, the cutest outdoor pot options.
When picking out flowers and plants for your front porch, take into consideration the amount of sun your porch gets. My porch has full sun during the day so I made sure to buy plants that needed it. I went with a bunch of bright colored flowers because I wanted my porch to look like summer.

5. Keep the Front Porch Clean and Clutter Free
This is something that I have always struggled with. Random items tend to pile up on the porch and I honestly don’t know how they get there! I am working really hard to keep my front porch clean and organized. I want to get in the habit of sweeping it every week and making sure that I am watering the plants every day so the porch continues to look bright and happy. Another thing I tend to do is leave the front yard hose out in the yard. I want to get better at using my watering can so I don’t have to drag out my hose every time!

How to Make the Most of a Small Front Porch Wrap Up
I am so happy with how this project tuned out! I love the bright yellow door and beautiful flowers. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to make your small porch beautiful. Even just one colorful pot with flowers and a pretty wreath can transform it! Create a vision for your small front porch and go for it! Here’s to a bright and colorful summer ahead!
