It’s been a while since I’ve done a weekly recap, so I thought I would share some moments from this past week! I really love sharing photos and it helps me to document everyday life. I went back and read through some of my old weekly recap posts and I absolutely loved seeing all the photos from my garden last year. It really got me in the mood to start thinking about my garden plans for this year. I don’t want to rush into planning because I still want to enjoy all that winter has to offer but it’s been hard since we’ve had some warmer days.

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of work inside, decorating and planning certain rooms in our home. We have two rooms that we need to work on and I would like to get them done before summer. As I’m sitting in my office writing this, I am looking around and realizing that I have a lot more work to do in here as well. This is why I love winter. It’s a time to hibernate and give your home some extra love. Anyways, let’s jump into some moments from the past week!

Monday

Monday was a pretty heavy work day. I did a ton of work in my office then made dinner. I made Beef Stroganoff and it turned out so delicious. I’ve been so good at planning my meals recently and have been making an effort to try new recipes. It really makes the busy weekdays more fun.

I wanted to share a photo from my office. I know I’ve shared some aspects of my office on my YouTube channel but I wanted to share on here as well. I did do a few gallery walls and like the way they turned out, although sometimes I wonder if they are a bit too busy. I like the gallery walls as of now so I’m going to keep them until I feel otherwise. When I first started planning out my office, I was going a completely different direction style wise. However, now I want my office to be more classy/vintage with some garden-y aspects to it. I’ve collected a lot of flower artwork, frames and plants so far. I really love Homegoods for artwork and frames and then of course the thrift store for any furniture and unique decor items. I also picked up a few plants a while back because Home Depot was having a huge sale on all their house plants.

I ended the night with some reading. I am currently reading the first book in the Lord of the Rings series and have really been enjoying it. I read The Hobbit a few years ago and don’t know why it has taken me so long to get started on Lord of the Rings. I do a lot of reading and I’m usually reading more than one book at a time. My reading slowed down a lot last year because we had just moved so I would like to see if I can do more reading this year. My goal is to read a book a week, we will see if I can keep this up!

I feel like I have been getting into such a great rhythm with my night and morning routines. I have been reading a lot before going to bed and I find that it helps me fall asleep more easily. I am definitely someone who tends to have racing thoughts before bed so reading helps my mind settle down.

Tuesday

As soon as I got home from work on Tuesday, I made myself a cup of tea and did a bit of computer work in my office. I’ve been in a bit of a creative rut recently and have no idea why. To be honest, I’ve been struggling with anxiety recently and it always impacts my creative work. I try to work through this by creating specific time slots to work on my computer and then having the rest of the night to relax or go to the gym.

Later on in the evening, I took a walk in our backyard to check on things. We had a big snow in January and it wasn’t until recently that the snow fully melted. It’s always so sad to see the garden so dead but I was shocked to see that our rosemary was still alive and thriving! It still smells great. I would like to order some dahlia tubers and ranunculus corms here soon. This year, I would like to sprinkle in a bunch of flowers in the vegetable beds to brighten things up. Last year I did marigolds but they kind of took over the beds. I’m also thinking about doing separate raised beds for flowers only.

Wednesday

I got off work early and went straight to the gym. I had to drop off a few books at the library and decided to pick up a few more. As soon as I got home, I made myself some tea and got started on The Pearl, by John Steinbeck. It’s a pretty short book so I was able to finish it in one siting. I’m starting to figure out the types of books that I truly enjoy and I am no longer wasting time with books that I know I just won’t finish. With that being said, I am also trying to branch out and challenge myself with certain books. I absolutely loved The Pearl and would like to read more of Steinbeck. Also, I think I might start doing recaps of all the books I read each month. I think it would encourage me to read more!

Thursday

I woke up Thursday morning to a pretty serious ice storm. At 5am in the morning, I was sitting on the couch reading when I heard a tree come crashing down in our front yard. I grabbed Oscar and ran away from the couch thinking the tree was going to come crashing through the reading room. It turned out to be a large branch falling in the front yard but for the rest of the morning, branches were crashing down outside.

Of course, when I got home from work the sun was shining and we had some beautiful weather. I made myself some tea and read outside for an hour or so while my husband cut up all of the branches that had fallen in our front yard. I made dinner and then continued reading for the rest of the night. As I am writing this recap, I’m realizing that I spent the majority of my week reading, haha!

The Weekend

Right after work on Friday, I went and got a facial. This was the first time I’ve ever gotten a facial done and I did microneedling with PRP. I have struggled with severe hormonal acne for the past two years but recently it has been clearing up. I am going to start getting more facials done to help with the acne scars. The microneedling was kind of painful but was over pretty quickly. The only downside was that my face was pretty red for a few days.

The rest of the weekend was somewhat uneventful because I didn’t want to go out in public too much since my face was extremely red. I went to the used bookstore and picked up a few books. I found the cutest copy of The Red Pony. To be honest, I spent most of the weekend reading and relaxing. I went to a surprise birthday dinner for my sister on Saturday and also did some shopping for office decor on Sunday. I got a bench, the cutest lamp for my desk and a big pot for an indoor plant.

Something that I’d really like to be better about is not feeling so rushed all the time. It’s almost like I feel super guilty if I’m not working every moment of the day. As I was reading and relaxing more this past week, I noticed myself feeling guilty for not doing more around the house. It’s hard because there is so much that needs to be done: painting, cleaning and organizing. But some weeks are harder than others. Sometimes I’m super productive and I get a lot done while other times I care more about relaxing and enjoying my time at home. I’m learning more about balance and giving myself space to do nothing without judgment.

I hope you enjoyed this recap and I will chat with you in the next one!
